Background
Intermittent, stationary observations of birds and other wildlife found on the property, adjacent neighborhood and coastal zone, i.e. Asilomar Marine Reserve, were begun in early January 2026. A binocular (Zeiss 10 x42) and a spotting scope (Zeiss 30-60x) were used in combination with a DSLR camera and telephoto lens (Nikon D850 and Nikon pf 500mm lens)for confirmation of distant sightings.
Habitats in the area surveyed included, mature Monterey Pine and Coast Live Oak woodland, wetland drainage (willow, sedge, etc.), coastal sage scrub; residential gardens with assorted native and ornamental vegetation; a golf course, coastal shoreline with rock outcrops and nearshore waters of the Pacific Ocean adjacent to Monterey Bay.
